As a GP Registrar with Miwatj Health, you’ll train towards Fellowship (FRACGP or FACRRM) under supervision, working within multidisciplinary teams that care for some of Australia’s most remote and culturally rich communities.

About Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation
Since 1992, Miwatj Health has been the largest Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service in the NT. We provide comprehensive primary healthcare to over 8,000 residents across East Arnhem, guided by culture, community, and a vision of stronger, healthier families.
The Role
Based in our East Arnhem communities (Nhulunbuy, Gunyangara, Yirrkala, Gapuwiyak, Galiwin’ku, Milingimbi, or Ramingining), you will:
- Provide acute care and manage chronic conditions in community settings.
- Deliver health education to Aboriginal Health Practitioners and community members.
- Participate in health promotion, research, and public health initiatives.
- Contribute to improving systems of care and health outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Build lasting relationships with patients, families, and community leaders.
Training & Supervision
- Work under the guidance of experienced GPs and the Director of Medical Services.
- Receive mentoring and structured supervision in line with NTGPE or equivalent GP Training Programs.
- Develop skills in Aboriginal health, paediatrics, chronic disease, emergency care, and remote practice.
- Gain hands-on experience in Communicare, CARPA guidelines, and Medicare processes.
Collaboration
You will work closely with:
- Internal teams: Clinic Managers, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Midwives, and Coordinators (e.g. Child Health, Chronic Disease).
- External partners: Gove District Hospital, NT Health, pathology/radiology providers, and visiting specialists.
What We Offer
- Salary (pro rata + 12% superannuation):
• $150,000 – Nhulunbuy, Gunyangara, Yirrkala
• $175,000 – Gapuwiyak, Galiwin’ku, Milingimbi, Ramingining - Access to $15,900 salary packaging + $2,650 meal & entertainment card through CBB.
- Comprehensive leave entitlements including annual leave, Miwatj Annual Leave Travel Assistance (up to $2,035 pa), Fares Out Leave, personal leave, and compassionate leave.
- Professional development: Up to 4 weeks combined study and professional development leave, with up to $2,000 pa study assistance, training opportunities, and exposure to diverse clinical practice.

About Miwatj Health
Miwatj Health has its administrative base in the town of Nhulunbuy, in the Northern Territory of Australia. Our clinics are located in Nhulunbuy, Gunyangara (also known as Marngarr), Galiwin’ku and Yirrkala, providing a walk-in service for all acute and preventive care needs. In addition to these fixed clinics, our outreach teams provide a regular visiting service to a number of nearby communities including Birritjimi, Galupa, Gunyangara, Garrathiya Plains, Yirrkala, and within the Galiwin’ku community.

◾Implementation of a range of population/public health programs and strategies which address the underlying causes of illness
◾Advocacy in support of the right of Aboriginal people to control their own health services and for such health services to receive resources and funding adequate to address the health problems of the region
◾Ensuring efficient, accountable administrative and financial systems support for the delivery of our services. The underlying philosophy of Miwatj Health is the fundamental right of Aboriginal people to control their own health services.
