About the Opportunity

To help us achieve this we are seeking applications from enthusiastic and proactive individuals wishing to commence a rewarding opportunity as a Parks Trainee. This full-time, two-year traineeship offers hands-on experience working in our open spaces and parks, while you complete your Certificate III in Horticulture with paid study time at Wauchope or Taree TAFE (location confirmed closer to commencement).
As part of our team, you'll gain practical skills working on:
- Mowing and maintenance of parks, reserves, sports fields, road reserves, and cemeteries
- Beach, garden, and tree maintenance.
- Groundskeeping and open space care
- Maintaining recreational assets and infrastructure
- Identifying and treating pests, diseases, and weeds affecting plant and turf health
- Minor construction works and litter collection
You'll work across a diverse range of public spaces and facilities, developing the skills to grow a strong and sustainable career in local government or the horticulture industry. Working within a diverse team across a wide range of different open spaces, a traineeship in our parks team opens a wealth of career opportunities.
We are looking for individuals who are:
- Willing to learn on the job and ask questions
- Interested in maintaining and improving community facilities
- Team players with strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Safety-conscious, committed to working safely for yourself and others
- Able to commit to study requirements and complete training in a timely and organised way
- Hold a current Driver's License (Red P's or more)
- Able to comply with uniform and PPE requirements, including while at TAFE

Remuneration and Benefits:
Employment type: Full-time, two-year traineeship with paid study time (38 hours per week with a 9-day fortnight)
Salary (exclusive of super): Starting from $423.10 to $780.40 per week depending on school level obtained and experience
Allowance: Adverse Working Level 1
