Senior Civil Estimator - Local builder- Global Financial backing- $200k- $240k+super

Your new company

My client delivers technical civil construction packages across some of Australia's largest projects, to the value of $15m. We're looking for an experienced Senior Civil Estimator to join their team and take charge ofthese estimating duties of these civil infrastructure projects.
As Senior civil estimator, you'll lead the preparation of first-principles cost estimates for complex civil infrastructure projects. This role requires a deep understanding of ideally underground construction methods, commercial acumen, and the ability to develop cost-effective solutions that align with both client requirements and internal business objectives.

Your new role

• Prepare detailed first-principles cost estimates for tenders across all business lines.

• Lead quantity take-offs and resource-based pricing using internal productivity benchmarks.
• Interpret geotechnical reports, construction methodologies, and technical drawings to inform cost assessments.
• Assess subcontractor and supplier quotes for technical and commercial alignment.
• Develop risk-adjusted pricing strategies in conjunction with the Pre-Contracts and Operations teams.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to compile complete bid submissions including methodology, program, and commercial elements.
• Support value engineering and design development during the bid phase.
• Attend tender briefings, site visits, and interact with clients as required.
• Contribute to the development of pricing norms and benchmarking tools.
• Assist in post-tender negotiations and clarifications.
• Provide input into strategic pricing decisions and project selection.
• Maintain and improve estimating databases and pricing tools (e.g., Candy, Benchmark, Excel-based systems).
• Ensure all estimates are prepared in accordance with internal governance and client requirements.
• Mentor junior estimators and engineering staff involved in pre-contracts work.
• Participate in peer reviews and contribute to continuous improvement in estimating processes.

What you'll need to succeed

• Minimum 10 years' experience in estimating civil construction projects, with at least ideally 5 years in underground infrastructure- or something similar
• Proven track record of winning work in infrastructure environment
• Strong technical understanding of ground conditions, excavation methods, shaft construction, grouting, shotcrete, and trenchless rehabilitation systems.
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g. Candy, Expert Estimation, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
• Understanding of commercial frameworks (e.g., AS4000, NEC, GC21, alliances).
• Experience in cost planning or bid leadership roles.
• Knowledge of Australian construction market rates and contractor/supplier networks.
• Commercially astute and detail-oriented.
• Strong communicator, able to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders.
• Solution-focused with a proactive and strategic mindset.
• Capable of managing multiple concurrent tenders and tight deadlines.

• A degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Law, Engineering or similar
