As the Bereavement Counsellor you will support children and young people bereaved through suicide with your trauma informed, strengths based and person centred approach by providing individual counselling support as well as facilitating support groups and workshops. You will work as part of the wider CYPRESS team alongside other counsellors and provide community based education increasing awareness about the impact of suicide.

This is a 10 month contract, working (0.6 FTE) 3 days per week on outreach (mileage reimbursement applies) covering the Perth metro area. The days of work are flexible with the exception of Wednesday which is a designated team meeting day.

What you will bring

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Tertiary degree in in counselling, psychology and/or Masters in related discipline and be eligible for professional association membership
  • Substantial counselling experience with children, young people, families and communities bereaved by suicide or affected by other significant trauma
  • Experience and skills in facilitating groups and training programs
  • Knowledge of current theories and trends, practice and literature in the area of suicide bereavement in particular for children and young people
  • Effortless ability to build rapport and engage with children and young people
  • Ability to work independently, manage time well and be able to be flexible around working times and locations (including outreach)
  • Solid administrative skills around navigating client management systems as well as timely and efficient input of case notes etc

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Check and a WA Drivers Licence with access to a roadworthy reliable vehicle.
