Bourke Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (BACHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service providing primary health care services initiated and operated by the local Aboriginal community to deliver holistic, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate health care to the community. We are now seeking an Aboriginal SEWB Worker within the Social & Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team with a passion for making a real difference in Aboriginal health.
The project aims to strengthen social and emotional wellbeing wherever possible by providing counselling and/or other supports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples prioritising the needs of the stolen generations. This project will support strong healthy and resilient individuals, families and communities which in turn may enhance pathways to education and employment and reduce substance abuse violence and contact with the criminal justice system.
In this role you will be responsible for delivering outcomes under the SEWB team and providing support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the development of culturally appropriate casework services and activities within a SEWB framework. The role provides a diverse range of casework services and other facilitated group programs including service promotion and outreach services to ensure ease of access for clients.
The key objectives of the role include:
Improve the health, social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
Improve drug, alcohol and substance misuse prevention and treatment.
Reducing offending, violence and victimisation in communities.
To succeed in this role you will need demonstrated experience in providing individual caseworker services ideally working with complex mental health and/or behavioural issues.
If you also have:
Cert IV Community Services OR tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, training and assessment, or demonstrated experience and qualifications in similar social, welfare or health field or willingness to obtain during employment
Proven experience and understanding of a participatory, supportive and empowerment-based style facilitating small or large groups across a diverse range of clients
Sound knowledge in the areas of community mental health, public health and Aboriginal Health
Experience working with health service agencies, non-government organisations, community groups and medical professionals at all levels
Ability to build relationships with all levels of the organisation, partners and stakeholders, and the community
High level of written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with variable workload demands
Current valid Driver’s license, minimum of Class “C” or equivalent
Ability to hold all relevant security clearances including the National Police Check and Working with Children clearance.
