Our IT Product Delivery team are uniquely dedicated to developing and enhancing digital experiences for various business areas within Curtin, including the development and operationalisation of new and existing digital products.

Your new role

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimising our ICT databases, ensuring high availability and reliability. This role overseas the general administration of databases and management of on premise and cloud-based applications, utilising platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft and AWS. This dynamic position offers you the opportunity to showcase your technical expertise, spearhead capacity planning initiatives and make a lasting impact on our digital landscape.

In this role you will:

  • Provide technical leadership in the specification of appropriate functional, technical, and system design specifications to meet the needs of business areas.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of centrally managed ICT databases and services by diagnosing complex problems, tuning to improve performance, maintaining and supporting the underlying University-wide ICT infrastructure, including liaison with ICT hardware and software vendors where advanced diagnosis is required.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of service continuity measures to ensure that business goals can be achieved even if a severe fault or serious incident occurs.
  • Take a lead role in the planning of ongoing capacity improvements to databases to ensure that the technological infrastructure continues to provide the services required by the University.
  • Protect the integrity of the ICT databases, servers and services by managing access, monitoring global ICT security news and technological developments, and acting on these using vendor advice and current technical knowledge.
  • Define and comprehensively document technology implementation standards, protocols and processes related to implemented technologies.

Key Requirements:

  • Extensive experience with enterprise-class Oracle RAC, AWS and Microsoft including capacity management.
  • Proven experience in large-scale production environments.
  • Strong organisational skills and experience in project management.
  • Ability to lead and mentor team members.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and a commitment to client-focused service.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies.

Desirable:

  • Experience with virtualised environments and cloud-based DB infrastructure.
  • Experience with Oracle Application Server and Linux systems administration.

Role Requirements:

  1. Current Permanent Australian working rights. Please note that visa sponsorship and/or relocation will not be supported for this role.
