About the role
We are looking for empathetic and motivated Community Mental Health Practitioners to join our Youth Residential Services team in Caboolture. You’ll play a vital role in helping young people build independence, develop life skills, and work towards their personal goals in a safe and supportive environment. We have multiple opportunities available, including permanent part-time (30.4 hours per week) and casual positions.
We are also recruiting for an identified Community Mental Health Practitioner – Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander role. This position is only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants and aims to strengthen cultural representation, engagement, and culturally safe practice within our team.
In this role, you will:
- Deliver personalised, recovery-focused support to young people aged 16–21 experiencing mental health challenges.
- Collaborate with young people, families, and carers to support recovery through one-on-one sessions, shared supports, workshops, and group facilitation.
- Work a flexible 24/7 rotating roster, including nights, weekends, and sleepovers, to provide consistent and responsive care.
Key responsibilities
- Support young people to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
- Use evidence-based approaches including Motivational Interviewing, Brief Intervention, trauma-informed care, conflict resolution, and family-inclusive practice.
- Plan and deliver group programs to build skills and focus on recovery.
- Engage families and carers through education, referrals, and support.
- Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to people’s recovery goals.
- Contribute to the day to day operations of the residential service through undertaking a range of housekeeping duties.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Youth Work, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
- Experience supporting young people with complex mental health needs.
- Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery-oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care, cognitive behaviour therapy, harm reduction therapy and family inclusive practice.
- Ability to provide proof of vaccination against vaccine preventable diseases or willingness to obtain required vaccinations per Queensland Health partnership.
