About the Position
Our Gympie team provide support to vulnerable families, particularly around the safety and wellbeing of their children. We help families identify their own strengths, set goals for themselves and provide in-home support and brokerage; and assist with connecting to other special services.

The Assessment and Service Connect (ASC) service is an Anglicare service which works alongside the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs (Child Safety) to undertake joint risk assessments of families and then work with these families to identify their needs and goals, and then refer them on to appropriate support services. The ASC service is a voluntary service, and all families working with the service give consent for the ASC to work with them.

The successful candidate will work out of both the Anglicare and Child Safety offices in Gympie, developing strong working relationships with Child Safety staff while being employed and supervised by Anglicare.

Working from the Strengthening Families framework, the position provides information, advice and casework responses to families and acts in a facilitation role to connect them with local community services as required. Salary offered SCHDI Award Level 5.

About You
With a background in Social Services, you will have significant experience working in both statutory and NGO sectors, particularly relating to child protection. Your capabilities in this area will include:

Exceptional assessment skills, with a focus on risk and safety of children within the home

Experience in professional case management, working directly working with children and families; able to confidently and competently manage adversarial, conflictual or at risk situations

An understanding of trauma-based behaviours, challenges in the field of child protection, and approaches to enhancing child safety and wellbeing

Understanding of the cultural and historic factors impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, and experience of working in a culturally sensitive manner with First Nations families

Proven background working with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and the capacity to display cultural awareness and sensitivity

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Child Safety and other agencies to support families and provide the best outcomes possible

Ability to build rapport and develop connections; relating effectively with a wide range of people, particularly vulnerable children and families

A calm, professional approach with the ability to be responsive, use initiative & sound judgement in decision making including negotiation and influencing skills

Strong capacity for problem-solving, with the ability to think outside the box to ensure successful solutions

Demonstrated organisational and self-management skills with the ability to prioritise your own workload whilst working within a team environment

Strong computer skills, experience in completing complex documentation within set timeframes

Our successful candidate will require:

▪ Current Blue Card

▪ Current National Police Check

▪ Current Queensland Driver Licence

▪ Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Behavioural Sciences or a related field

▪ Ability to provide after hours and on-call support; work flexible hours including weekends, mornings and evenings
