The Position
We are seeking an independent and motivated individual, preferably with experience in compliance and governance, to join a small, collaborative team. The successful candidate will either hold or be eligible to obtain NV1 clearance, which the University can sponsor and manage as required.
The Research Assurance Officer plays a key role in delivering high-quality services and strategic advice to support the University’s research initiatives. As a research-intensive institution, the University values academics dedicated to solving problems through both applied and big-picture research.
The Research Assurance Team, within Research and Innovation Services, oversees monitoring, support, and reporting on research integrity, foreign interference and arrangements, and defence export control regulations. Reporting to the Senior Research Assurance Officer, the role involves collaboration across the Division, the broader Research and Innovation Portfolio, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and regulatory implementation, including research integrity, DTCA, and foreign arrangements.
The Officer is also responsible for coordinating and delivering training programs, supporting research integrity investigations, and contributing to research services projects, communications, and ad hoc initiatives, including managing peak workloads.
The Person
The ideal candidate will possess a relevant degree and demonstrated experience in management support within complex organisational settings, or an equivalent combination of experience, qualifications, and training. Experience in project coordination and working in research-intensive environments will be highly regarded. They will have sound knowledge of contemporary management practices, with the ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and legislative requirements to manage risk and ensure compliance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, including experience preparing complex documentation and reports.
The candidate will demonstrate strong liaison abilities, effectively consulting with stakeholders in culturally diverse environments. Analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to collect and interpret data to make informed recommendations are required. Organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads, work independently and collaboratively, and deliver high-quality outcomes under tight deadlines are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced Excel skills, and experience with online data management systems are expected.
