Senior Network Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join a large-scale federal government program focused on modernising critical ICT systems and infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant projects in a secure and complex environment while working as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.

As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of secure network services across on-premise and cloud environments. You'll play a key role in supporting the agency's transition to cloud, ensuring networks remain secure, resilient, and optimised for performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, implement, and maintain secure network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, firewalls, routing, switching).
• Monitor and optimise network operations, providing proactive support and troubleshooting for incidents.
• Contribute to planning and delivery of both BAU operations and major ICT projects.
• Support the implementation of network solutions in Microsoft Azure.
• Collaborate with geographically dispersed teams and mentor colleagues to uplift capability.
• Provide accurate advice, reporting, and technical guidance to stakeholders at all levels.

Skills and Experience

To be successful, you will demonstrate:

• Proven experience in enterprise network engineering within complex environments.
• Strong technical expertise in Layer 2 networking (VLANs, Trunks, Spanning Tree).
• Hands-on experience with Cisco technologies and secure network design.
• Exposure to Azure networking and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Requirements

• Must hold an active NV1 (Negative Vetting Level 1) Security Clearance.
• Ability to work in Canberra on a hybrid arrangement (on-site and remote).
