This role balances creativity with rigour, ensuring that each new character is well-designed, thoroughly tested, and clearly documented for both storytellers and players. It also supports the storyteller community with tools and training that enhance storytelling quality and consistency, particularly when working with experimental or complex characters. Additionally, this role works closely with app developers to ensure new characters and mechanics are smoothly integrated into the official Blood on the Clocktower app.

Key Responsibilities

1. Character Development and Testing

· Oversee the structured development of new and experimental characters, from concept through to playtesting and finalisation.

· Collaborate with designers and community members to assess balance, playability, bluffing viability, and thematic fit.

· Managing and coordinating with local playtest group leaders across multiple locations, including ensuring all testers have NDAs in place, access to scripts, and coordinating logistics to support in-person play

· Develop and maintain standardised testing protocols to ensure consistency and quality of testing outcomes.

· Lead or coordinate playtest sessions (in person or online) and facilitate targeted testing of specific characters or interactions.

· Track and analyse testing data and feedback to inform iteration cycles.

· Prioritise clarity, simplicity, and thematic integrity in all character designs and supporting materials.

2. Game Documentation and Resource Development

· Develop written and visual resources that support storytellers in confidently running new content.

· Coordinate with lead game designer on development of rules, jinxes, and accessible game play

· Maintain alignment of documentation tone and style with the Blood on the Clocktower brand and community expectations.

· Ensure consistency across all forms of storytelling guidance and gameplay materials.

· Help build scalable content management systems (e.g. wikis, toolkits, handbooks) to manage game documentation.

3. App Integration Support

· Adapt in-person game content as needed to accommodate online play

· Write, edit and publish game content, rules and instructions for in-app play

· Collaborate with app developers to ensure the timely and accurate integration of new characters, abilities, and rules into the Blood on the Clocktower app.

· Provide clear and detailed specifications, documentation, and clarifications to support development and QA.

· Assist in reviewing and testing app features related to new characters, ensuring functionality aligns with game logic and storytelling needs.

· Act as a liaison between the game designer and app development teams to ensure consistency across platforms.

4. Storyteller Training and Community Enablement

· Design and deliver training sessions, workshops, and resources for storytellers to develop their skills and confidence.

· Identify and articulate core storyteller competencies at different skill levels, and create structured content to support their development.

· Explore scalable training models such as online courses, video tutorials, or mentorship frameworks.

· Support the implementation of potential certification or tiered storyteller systems, in coordination with leadership team.

5. Strategic Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

· Collaborate cross-functionally with design, community, production, and support teams to ensure new content aligns with business priorities and community needs.

· Gather and integrate feedback from testing groups, storytellers, and players into development pipelines.

· Track, evaluate, and report on the impact of storyteller resources and game development activities.

· Drive continuous improvement through reflection, feedback, and structured review.

6. Volunteer Coordination and Community Engagement

· Act as a key point of contact for volunteers engaged in character development, documentation, and testing projects.

· Provide volunteers with the support, resources, and feedback they need to contribute effectively and feel valued.

· Monitor volunteer involvement and output to ensure work is aligned with quality standards and project timelines.

· Foster a respectful and inclusive volunteer culture, addressing any issues or conflicts in line with TPI's Volunteer Guide and Code of Conduct.
