Your next career opportunity
As a Senior Web Developer in the ARDC Nectar Cloud Services team, you'll play a pivotal role in enhancing the user experience for Australia's research community. You'll design and develop intuitive web interfaces and backend services that streamline access to cloud resources, empowering researchers nationwide. This role offers you the chance to apply your expertise in modern web technologies to shape how scientists collaborate and conduct research on a national scale.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • User Interface Design: Collaborate with UX engineers to craft accessible, user-centric web experiences for cloud services.
  • Full-Stack Development: Design and implement new features using modern JavaScript frameworks and Python backends.
  • DevOps Integration: Leverage CI/CD pipelines and automation tools to ensure high code quality and streamlined deployment.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and analyse web application performance, providing insights to drive continuous improvement.

You may be a great fit if:
You are an experienced web developer with a passion for creating intuitive user interfaces, possessing strong skills in modern JavaScript frameworks and Python development, and a keen interest in applying your expertise to advance scientific research.

You may also:

  • Hold a degree in computer science or a related field or have equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrate expertise in React or Angular, and proficiency with Python frameworks like Django or Flask.
  • Have experience with DevOps workflows, including Git and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Possess strong UI/UX skills and a commitment to accessibility standards.
  • Show excellent problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills.

Your new team - Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC)
The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) is Australia's peak infrastructure for research data. Funded by the Australian Commonwealth Government through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). At the ARDC, we're accelerating Australian research and innovation by driving excellence in the creation, analysis and retention of high-quality data assets. We partner with the research community and industry to build leading-edge digital research infrastructure.

The ARDC Nectar Research Cloud is a federated national cloud service dedicated to research. Since 2012, it has grown to support around 4,000 users and 1,800 research projects. It consists of several nodes operated by research institutions and eResearch organisations in Australia, and also federates with a node in New Zealand. Coordination of the research cloud and management of the central cloud services and operations is provided by the ARDC Cloud Services team. The platform is built using OpenStack cloud computing software, a major open source project.
