Warringa Park School is a specialist school located in Hoppers Crossing, we are currently seeking 2 Full Time Occupational Therapists

Attendance is NOT required during school holidays.

The Position:

The successful applicant will work in collaboration with the school’s executive, allied health team and classroom staff to deliver programs designed to maximise the occupational performance of students.

The Occupational Therapist will provide support to classroom staff, including discussion, modelling and guidance regarding the implementation of programs and recommendations.

Key Accountabilities:

• In consultation with the Principal, teaching staff and allied health team, develop, deliver and evaluate occupational therapy services to students.

• Assist and participate in the development of policies, strategies, processes and procedures for the effective delivery of occupational therapy services to students.

• Be an active participant in the development of student goals in collaboration with families, classroom staff and other allied health professionals.

• Supervise and participate in professional development training of staff in areas pertinent to the role of an occupational therapist.

• Maintain appropriate records and provide written and oral reports of a high standard that adhere to occupational therapy guidelines

Selection Criteria

1. Specialist knowledge in the area of Paediatric Occupational Therapy with clinical experience delivering a comprehensive occupational therapy service. Experience within an educational setting highly desirable.

2. Knowledge of current assessment and management techniques that reflect current philosophy and practice in Occupational Therapy. This applies to functional independence, equipment prescription, fine motor and sensory issues, for children and adolescents.

3. An understanding of the role of an occupational therapist within a multidisciplinary and trans disciplinary team with demonstrated capacity to collaborate with other professionals to achieve best outcomes for students.

4. An understanding of and ability to participate in the development of clinical and educative programs and initiatives, which are underpinned by best practice principles.

5. Capacity to provide the lifting required for handling and positioning inherent in clinical intervention of clients and the trial of equipment, in accordance with relevant OH&S standards.

6. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult with and advise other professionals providing services to students.

7. Demonstrated committed to ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

Development, facilitation and evaluation of individualised and group programs targeting the development of fine motor and self-care skills within classrooms and learning centres.

Assessment of sensory integration difficulties in the classroom environment with appropriate interventions development and evaluated.

Equipment prescription in the classroom including alternative seating options.

Working collaboratively with allied health team to ensure high standard of care for students including goal planning, program assessment and resource development.

Development of productive relationships with classroom staff to ensure the continuum of care of all students.

Presentation of professional development sessions for staff regarding manual handling, sensory integration, and fine motor skill acquisition and development.

Production of relevant, concise and accurate professional documentation including equipment prescription reports, funding applications, sensory integration reports and progress notes.

Participation in case conferences, allied health meetings and staff meetings.

Ensure a high personal standard of work.

Other Information

An approved tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and current registration with AHPRA is mandatory for appointment to this position. Membership with Occupational Therapy Australia is highly desirable.

Warringa Park School is a specialist school located in Hoppers Crossing. The school population is drawn from the City of Wyndham and caters for students aged 5 to18 years who have a diagnosed intellectual disability ranging from mild to profound. Warringa Park is a P-12 school organised around the three stages of learning - the early, middle and later years. The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is offered in the later years. Our school currently has an enrolment of 704 students situated over four campuses. An alternative year 11 and 12 vocational training program is offered at our rural campus in Cayleys Rd Werribee South. A year 7 to 12 campus is situated on the grounds of The Grange P-12 College in Bethany Rd. Our new campus located at Polly Parade Tarneit opened this year and will cater for our foundation and lower primary students from Prep to Grade 2.
