Maternity Services, Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)

  • The RHH is the tertiary referral centre for Tasmania, we have around 2000 births each year.
  • Our graduate program will give you the opportunity to consolidate your knowledge across antenatal clinic, antenatal inpatient cares, pregnancy assessment, labour and birth, inpatient postnatal care, community based postnatal care and lactation services.
  • Opportunity to work within and learn from a dynamic multidisciplinary team that is passionate about supporting early career midwives.

The Role:

Transition to Practice - Midwife (12-month program)

  • In collaboration with members of the healthcare team plan, implement and evaluate women/family care.
  • Practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia codes and guidelines for registered midwives.
  • Involve women and their families/significant others in the planning and implementation of care.

Teamwork

  • Interact effectively with women, their families and other health team members.
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a strong team approach through open communication and a positive supportive approach.

Excellence in Practice

  • Active involvement in maintaining and continually improving the quality of care provided to women. This may include participation in research and evidence-based practice.
  • Contribute to the review and development of innovative procedures, policies and best practice related to midwifery care.

Learning Culture

  • Identify and meet educational needs of women and their families/significant others.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate teaching plans for patients/clients that meet their learning needs and facilitate informed decision making.
  • Participate and contribute to a learning environment, through continuing education, professional development and attendance at conferences and relevant fora.

You will need:

  • Current knowledge of, and the ability to apply midwifery principles, procedures and practices in the delivery of women/family care in a designated practice area and in line with legal requirements and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Midwifery Standards of practice.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including written skills and the ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement (safety and quality) and the application of evidence-based practice in the practice setting.

Details of appointment:

Multiple, fixed term, part time, shift worker positions, working 64 hours per fortnight, multiple start dates available.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicants.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Location: Hobart, Tasmania

Salary: $78,179 to $105,995 per annum (pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Midwife
  • Current Working with Children Registration
