  • Up to four temporary full-time positions for 12 months, with a view to permanency (two positions in the Procedure Office and up to two positions in the Committee Office).
  • We are looking for passionate, high performing professionals who excel at research and high-level procedural and administration services.

About us

The Department of the Legislative Council is a dynamic, collaborative and positive workplace. As an organisation, we are committed to providing impartial advice and support to all Members of the Legislative Council, to enable them to fulfil their parliamentary duties. Our staff are passionate about the democratic process and pride themselves on ensuring the public can be involved and engaged in parliamentary activities.

The three principal areas of the department are the Procedure Office, the Committee Office, and the Office of the Black Rod, each offering unique, challenging and reward work.

The department values and invests in its people. Our 2024 People Matter Survey results showed that 78% of our staff would recommend the Legislative Council as a great place to work. This is 20% higher than the rest of the public sector. Our rates for employee engagement (77%) and job satisfaction (84%) are also both significantly higher than the rest of the public sector.

The Legislative Council is an inclusive, respectful and flexible workplace. We value diversity, as shown in our Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Plan. We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with a disability, the LGBTQI+ community, culturally diverse people and other diverse communities. Our flexible work practices include hybrid working, job sharing and part time arrangements.

About the position

We are seeking up to four highly motivated, appropriately skilled and experienced professionals to join our Procedure and Committee Offices as Senior Council Officers (Clerk Grade 7/8).

The Procedure Office supports the operation of the House, and the procedural, protocol and research needs of members. Senior Council Officers work across teams that each manage various aspects of the House and its sittings, including producing the House business papers and assisting the passage of legislation.

The Committee Office provides resources and secretariat support to the Legislative Council’s subject, portfolio and select committees, which undertake inquiries and review a diverse range of policy and accountability issues. Senior Council Officers support committee inquiries by organising hearings, briefings and committee travel under guidance, and assist with researching and writing committee reports.
