Our public sector client is seeking a Librarian to join their team on a temporary contract, full-time basis. The role will be working 5 days per week/ 7.5 hours per day. This position is located within Perth's Western suburbs near to public transport and parking. The role will be working in a medium-sized and supportive team. This position is responsible for the organisation's library system and resources for the benefit of the community.
Your new role
- Manage Spydus system and support team.
- Oversee resource selection, acquisition, and cataloguing.
- Assist with reference queries and deliver excellent customer service.
- Support Library Officers and supervise volunteers/students.
- Handle ordering and expenditure per policy.
- Maintain public areas and collections.
- Represent the organisation in library meetings.
- With Manager: collect stats, run programs/events, promote BVCC, prepare rosters, apply for grants, and collaborate with the community.
- Participate in safety activities and report hazards/incidents.
- Deliver quality customer service and foster workplace harmony.
- Use resources efficiently and follow purchasing practices.
- Maintain public relations and records.
- Apply continuous improvement to tasks.
- Support process reviews and celebrate improvements.
What you'll need to succeed
- Tertiary qualification in Information and Library Studies, with eligibility for ALIA membership.
- Proven experience in developing and managing library collections.
- Strong grasp of customer service principles and ability to engage with diverse clientele.
- Proficient in computer use and open to adopting new technologies.
- Solid understanding of Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2).
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Possession of a current, valid Working with Children Check.
- Familiarity with SPYDUS library management software would be highly desired.
- Awareness of the structure and operations within the local government sector would be preferable.
