About the Role
As a Cyber Security Engineer, you'll be a key contributor to Curtin’s agile and adaptive IT security operations. You will work collaboratively across teams, vendors, and external agencies to proactively identify and mitigate threats, enhance monitoring systems, and ensure a secure, resilient IT environment for the University community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and support security solutions that safeguard Curtin’s digital assets.
- Investigate potential security incidents and perform supported threat hunting activities.
- Drive improvements in incident response and monitoring capabilities.
- Partner with internal teams and vendors to strengthen security operations.
- Provide expert technical advice, mentor team members, and contribute to university-wide committees.
- Maintain security documentation and contribute to performance metrics.
Selection Criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in cyber security or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in cloud security
- Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, GCIH, SSCP (or equivalent).
- Strong hands-on experience in information security operations and incident management.
- Deep understanding of cyber security standards, frameworks, and technologies.
- Ability to mentor others and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong communication and assertiveness skills, with the ability to effectively drive remediation efforts.
The successful candidate must be confident and professional when addressing security issues, ensuring they are listened to and taken seriously. This role requires someone who is comfortable engaging in difficult conversations, managing conflict constructively, and raising concerns without hesitation. A high level of assertiveness, balanced with professionalism and diplomacy is essential.
Role Requirements:
- Current Permanent Australian working rights. Please note that visa sponsorship and/or relocation will not be supported for this role.
- Willing to undertake a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
