What You’ll Be Doing

Step into a dynamic rural nursing role where no two days are the same. As a Registered Nurse at Wee Waa Community Hospital, you’ll primarily work in an Emergency Department-style setting, seeing everything from walk-in outpatients to triage presentations. You’ll need to think critically, act independently, and make sound clinical judgements.

This is an autonomous, meaningful, and hands-on nursing role for those looking to make a real difference in a tight-knit community. It’s ideally suited to nurses with ED experience, triage and/or ALS skills, but ongoing education and support are provided, including visits from a Clinical Nurse Educator based in Gunnedah and additional upskilling opportunities via the HNE Education team and Nursing and Midwifery Directorate.

Key Responsibilities

Provide front-line care in an ED-style environment (including wound care, triage, emergency response)

Exercise sound clinical and situational judgment without a doctor on site

Liaise with the virtual ED medical team for patient management

Support junior staff and contribute to clinical education

Engage with the local community in a culturally respectful and meaningful way

Why You’ll Love Wee Waa

Nicknamed the Cotton Capital of Australia, Wee Waa is a welcoming, down-to-earth country town with a big heart and an even bigger sense of community. This is the kind of place where neighbours stop for a chat, kids ride their bikes freely, and Friday night at the Bowling Club is where everyone gathers to share a meal and a laugh.

In Wee Waa, life moves at a gentler pace, and everything you need is within arm’s reach, without the stress or cost of city living.

Locals love Wee Waa for:

Convenience without the chaos: A well-stocked IGA, great local cafés, and everything you need for day-to-day life, with Narrabri only 25 minutes away for extras

Great local facilities: Freshly refurbished swimming pool, tennis courts, showgrounds, and a bowling club serving up some of the best Chinese food in the region (yes, really!)

Perfect for families: Five schooling options including public, Catholic, and Christian schools, plus a strong community focus on sport, volunteering, and inclusion

Outdoor adventure on your doorstep: Camping at Burren Junction, hiking in the Pilliga Forest, horse riding with the local Pony Club, and family outings to the CSIRO Telescopes or nearby artesian hot springs

A real community spirit: From the Wee Waa Show in August to the local museum’s Big Breakfast and bustling Friday night raffles, you’ll always feel part of something special

A lower cost of living and more space to breathe: Affordable rentals, wide open spaces, and the kind of peace and quiet that makes it easy to unwind after a busy shift

Whether you're into fishing, footy, photography, or just making real human connections, Wee Waa gives you the space, support, and scenery to enjoy it all.

If you’re ready to ditch the city hustle and enjoy a role where your work has a tangible impact, Wee Waa will welcome you with open arms.
