What you'll be doing

Pre-Operative Duties:

Complete pre-operative assessments to ensure patients are fit for surgery.

Ensure informed consent is obtained and document preoperative instructions.

Educate and prepare patients psychologically and physically for surgery.

Collaborate with surgical and anaesthetic teams to confirm patient details, surgical procedures, and required equipment.

Intra-Operative (Theatre) Duties:

Perform as a scrub, circulating, or anaesthetic nurse depending on theatre assignment.

Maintain a sterile field, ensuring correct surgical instruments and equipment are available.

Assist the surgical and anaesthetic teams throughout the surgical procedure.

Record all perioperative data, including patient status and surgical details.

Monitor patient vitals and provide support during surgery.

Post-Operative (Recovery) Duties:

Provide immediate post-anaesthetic care in the recovery unit, ensuring patients regain consciousness safely.

Monitor and assess vital signs and administer medications as required (e.g., pain management, anti-nausea).

Provide a safe recovery environment, observing for complications or reactions.

Coordinate the discharge of patients from recovery once stable and prepare them for transfer to a ward or home.

What we're looking for

A current and valid Registration with AHPRA

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, in a surgical or perioperative setting

Strong clinical skills and a thorough understanding of nursing principles and best practices

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and the healthcare team

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

High attention to detail and the ability to ensure patient safety at all stages of the surgical process.

Proficient in using relevant medical technology and electronic health record systems

Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care
