ABOUT THE ROLE

Sacred Heart College is committed to building a school community where equity, cultural safety and belonging are a lived reality for all students. As part of our ongoing work in reconciliation and justice, we are seeking a dedicated educator to take on the role of Inclusion and Diversity Teacher – First Nations Specialist. This position plays a key role in supporting the educational, social and cultural outcomes of our First Nations students.

Working as part of the Inclusion and Diversity team, you will support students to strengthen their cultural identity, advocate for their needs, and build strong partnerships with families, community and staff. You will help ensure that curriculum, support structures, and learning environments reflect culturally responsive practice and promote success for First Nations students.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide First Nations students with opportunities that will enhance their sense of belonging, connection to community and cultural identity
  • Complete documentation to support funding for First Nations students
  • Facilitate First Nations Mentor group
  • Contribute to the design, construction and delivery of curriculum that enhances the learning outcomes of First Nations students
  • Facilitate and/or participate in Program Support Group meetings and Transition meetings
  • Partner with the Inclusion and Diversity Network to develop and implement reasonable adjustments
  • Prioritise and advocate for the diverse needs of the First Nations students
  • Consider and document reasonable adjustments and development of goals, in consultation with students, families and key stakeholders, to foster a culture of continuous learning and development
  • Gather and analyse data regarding student learning growth
  • Construct and maintain student Learner Profiles
  • Liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders to establish communication channels and partnerships to maximise student learning outcomes
  • Provide support and guidance to the Inclusion and Diversity Network, including contributing to and supporting compliance processes
  • Demonstrate current knowledge of the Disability Standards for Education and support staff to build their capacity in the application of these standards

You will have experience supporting diverse learners and adapting curriculum to meet individual needs, with a focus on fostering a learning environment where all students feel seen, respected and capable of success.

The Inclusion and Diversity Teacher – First Nations Specialist will work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and play a central role in mentoring, advocacy, curriculum delivery, and connection with families. Lived experience as a First Nations person is considered essential to the effectiveness and cultural legitimacy of this work.
