Join Us as a Communications Systems Technician! Help keep WA moving — be part of something bigger.
About the role
Are you ready to take your technical skills to the next level with a role that truly makes a difference? At the Public Transport Authority (PTA), we’re entering an exciting phase of growth and modernisation — and we’re looking for Communications Systems Technicians to power the future of our rail network. This is more than just a job — it’s a unique opportunity to work on complex and vital systems that keep millions of Western Australians connected and moving safely every day.
As a Communications Systems Technician, you’ll play a critical role in the performance and safety of our operations. You’ll carry out routine maintenance, fault-finding, and rectification on a variety of advanced communications infrastructure — including integrated train control systems and the future LTE telecommunications networks for rail operations.
You'll be working across a wide range of equipment and environments, supporting the transition from high-density microwave links to MPLS/IP-based backbone networks and LTE communications, as well as Emergency Telephony, PA systems, CCTV, and Customer Information Displays.
If you have experience in rail communications systems, even better — we’d love to hear from you.
About You!
We are looking for hands-on problem solvers who are adaptable, safety-focused, and eager to get stuck into challenging work. You’ll need to be comfortable working at moderate heights, in confined spaces, on-call, and occasionally at short notice.
You’ll also need:
· A current WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
· ACMA Open Cabler Registration with fibre optics, structured and coaxial cabling endorsements
· A relevant trade qualification and communications experience
· Extensive experience in maintaining and fault-finding communications systems
· Skills in microwave, IPBN/MPLS, LTE, telephony, CCTV, DC power, PA systems, Customer Information Displays and industrial communication networks
