A bit about the role

This role involves applying contemporary leadership practices to create and sustain a positive work culture that encourages enthusiasm, commitment to ongoing performance, continuous improvement, and the adoption of best practices in the team.

What you’ll deliver

  • Coach, monitor, and manage performance of direct reports, consultants, and contributors to align with Council priorities.
  • Encourage and support professional development within the team.
  • Oversee and project manage planning applications, ensuring coordination and service standards.
  • Prepare or review planning assessments and reports for decision-making and recommendations.
  • Administer and determine planning matters under the Council’s Deed of Delegation.
  • Prepare appeal and panel submissions, and represent Council at hearings.
  • Act as a point of coordination and advice for stakeholders on planning and development processes.
  • Process major and complex planning applications with professional judgment and competence.
  • Contribute to strategic documents, including planning schemes and urban design frameworks.
  • Recommend creative solutions and resolve complex issues through negotiation and mediation.
  • Promote a stakeholder management approach to achieve collaborative outcomes
  • Encourage team participation in professional development.

What you’ll bring

  • Degree or Diploma in Town Planning, Urban Studies or Urban Geography with 5+ years relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills to build and maintain effective internal stakeholder networks and apply influence for good planning outcomes.
  • Proven people leadership skills, fostering cohesive, high-performing teams with clear shared goals.
  • Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.)
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
  • A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
