The role:
Are you ready to gear up your career in mechanics and get hands-on with small equipment like ride-on lawn mowers and whipper snippers? Mackay Regional Council are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as Apprentice Mechanic (Small Engine).
You'll gain practical experience working on a large variety of equipment, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently, ready to use by our field crews. You will learn all the knowledge for to maintain small engines and mechanical equipment. No two days are the same with a diverse range of equipment and problems to solve.
Timeframe
This is a 4-year apprenticeship. On completion you will obtain a Certificate III in Outdoor Power Equipment.
This is an apprenticeship and is ideal for school leavers, those new to the industry or seeking a career change. Eligibility criteria apply if you hold existing qualifications in this area.

What you will need to succeed:
- Ability to plan and be an active problem solver.
- Interest in working in a workshop and field environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- You're a team player, with the ability to learn from, and grow positive relationships with others.
- Physically fit and energetic and able to complete manual handling tasks.
- Successful completion of Year 10 is desirable but not required.

Shortlisted applicants must be available for interviews from 22 September - 3 October 2025.
Council is committed to the safety of its employees and requires an immunisation program for identified roles. The successful applicant will be required to attend a post-employment immunisation assessment, by a health practitioner nominated and paid for by the Council.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake a pre-employment Medical and Drug and Alcohol test as part of the onboarding process.
