This leadership role is part of the Wildlife and Threatened Species Operations unit's broader team within the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnership (QPWS&P). A significant component of the work relates to the implementation of the Queensland Estuarine Crocodile Management Plan and leading a team of wildlife rangers and maintenance of the associated reporting and administration systems.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate leadership qualities and experience. A strong interest in biodiversity and conservation is essential.
The role requires a willingness to work in isolated and remote situations in northern Queensland for extended periods of time, sometimes a short notice. Tasks will include the safe and ethical application of wildlife capture methods, handling, transport and supervision of these operations.

Ability to operate vessels in remote locations and relevant qualifications will be an advantage if you are applying for this role. The same applies to navigational systems, communication and remote tracking systems. A sound understanding of environmental indicators that affect operations such as tides and adverse weather is important. Being pragmatic and showing the ability to engineer safe solutions for technical challenges which arise while working in the field or back at base, will be a benefit to you in the fast-paced position.

You should have a strong appreciation for safety culture, animal ethics and be culturally adaptable at the same time.
If you think you are someone who fits this profile we look forward to receiving your application.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
