About the Position
We are seeking a qualified and experienced professional to join our Sustainability and Climate Change Unit as a Waste Education Officer. In this role, you will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of innovative waste education programs that support the City’s Waste Strategy and Climate Change Strategy.
You’ll work across schools, community groups, businesses, and internal teams to promote waste reduction and improve bin use. Your responsibilities will include providing expert advice, analysing waste data, supporting policy development, and coordinating events, workshops, bin audits, and rebate programs contributing directly to a cleaner, more sustainable Cockburn.

About You
You’re a passionate sustainability advocate with experience in waste education, environmental programs, or community engagement. You’re a great communicator, love working with people, and bring energy and fresh ideas to every project. If you're organised, proactive, and ready to lead fun, impactful initiatives—this role is for you!
To be successful you will need to possess:
- A Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Biological Science, Education or equivalent experience within waste and sustainability.
- Knowledge of and experience in dealing with waste, sustainability or environmental issues.
- Good understanding of waste management.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
Salary: $96,527.30 per annum, pro rata.
This is a 0.6FTE part-time role, 22.5 hours per week – flexible hours to be negotiated with the successful candidate. This role is for a period of one year, at which time there may be the opportunity to extend.
