The Team:
The Northern Cancer Service provides comprehensive specialist inpatient and outpatient Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Clinical Haematology Services to the Northern Tasmanian community. This includes the state-wide brachytherapy service.

- The Northern Cancer Service also plays an active role in cancer education and research within Tasmania.
The Role:
The MCCN provides care, information, and support for people with cancer across the continuity of care pathways and multidisciplinary teams across the cancer care community within the Health Service/demographic region. The MCCN will provide collaborative clinical and supportive care for people and their families, along with the facilitation of communication across the multidisciplinary cancer care team.
The McGrath Cancer Care Nurse will have expert knowledge regarding the spectrum of cancer care, inclusive of health assessment, treatment pathways, referrals, and on-going facilitation of clinical and supportive cancer care.
Work through Lead Clinicians and Director Northern Cancer Service to:
- Provide a significant degree of autonomy and independent decision making to develop the service.
- Provides authoritative advice at oncology team meetings to support patient care specific to cancer care.
- Develop pathways protocols and guidelines in relation to cancer care consistent with the national framework.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, from 28 July 2025 until 28 July 2028 (3-year appointment).
Note: 0.50 FTE of this position to be within the W.P. Holman Clinic, Launceston and 0.50 FTE to be at Mersey Community Hospital Day Oncology Unit, Latrobe.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $114,851 to $121,886 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
In addition, the following allowance calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type (RN)

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
Post Graduate qualifications in cancer nursing - oncology and/or palliative care
- Minimum of 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience as a registered nurse with at least 3 years recent full time equivalent experience in Oncology, Palliative Care or Cancer Stream specific Nursing
