About the role
2100km north west of Brisbane, Normanton is a small community situated on the banks of the Norman River in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Fishing and prawning industries are the mainstay of the area, along with tourism. The Traditional Owners of the Normanton area are the Gkuthaarn, Kukatj, and Kurtijar peoples.
Normanton Hospital is a level 2 facility under the Rural and Remote Clinical Services Capability Framework with 14 inpatient beds and capacity to provide respite/palliative care services. The facility provides 24-hour acute inpatient and accident and emergency care. Outpatient services include general outpatients, nurse and medical led outreach clinics, radiology, pathology, pharmacy, telehealth and dressing clinics.
Work under the supervision of a sole Senior Medical Officer or Rural Generalist to provide excellent clinical care for a remote Gulf community, within a multidisciplinary team.
Requirements
- Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification from a recognised tertiary institution and hold current unconditional registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Appointment to this position requires the incumbent to be a current rural generalist trainee of ACRRM or RACGP.
- Appointment as a Provisional Fellow Rural Generalist SMO (Level 13 to Level 14) will require one or more of the following advanced skills as specified by the Colleges: Adult Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Remote Medicine, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Mental Health, with Anaesthetics or Obstetrics considered.
- C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
- Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
- This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
- A period of probation may apply.
