Walking Beside Community, Every Step

Bloodwood Tree Association is looking for a full-time AOD Counsellor based in Hedland, WA.

You will be responsible for delivering client-centred AOD counselling and support across the region, reporting to the AOD Team Leader and working collaboratively with a dedicated community services team.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Providing individual and group counselling sessions for clients experiencing AOD issues

Conducting comprehensive assessments and managing treatment planning

Facilitating community education and awareness programs

Delivering culturally sensitive care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients

Accurately maintaining confidential case notes and reports

Participating in outreach visits to communities such as Marble Bar, Warralong, and Yandeyarra

Attending regular supervision (including external supervision sessions)

Contributing to stakeholder engagement and service promotion initiatives

Your First Few Weeks

Your first month will be focused on learning and connection. In the first two weeks, you’ll receive guided training, observe sessions, and learn the systems and supports in place. By weeks three and four, you’ll begin engaging with clients and visiting communities alongside experienced team members, while building relationships with stakeholders and local networks.

You Bring the Heart – We’ll Bring the Mission

To qualify, you will need a minimum Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, Mental Health, Counselling, Social Work or a related field. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an AOD, community, or health service setting is essential.

Additionally, the following qualifications and experience will be highly valued:

Trauma-informed care training

Motivational Interviewing techniques

Harm reduction and relapse prevention strategies

Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Advanced data entry and case documentation experience

As our ideal candidate, you will demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the emotional intelligence to support diverse clients. You’ll need to be adaptable, resilient, and passionate about community-led service delivery.

This is a role for someone who brings genuine empathy, cultural awareness, and the emotional maturity to work with vulnerable clients—helping them navigate complex life challenges and walk beside them through long-term change.

What You’ll Gain While Giving Back

This is a rewarding opportunity offering:

Competitive hourly rate: $50 to $55/hour, based on skills and qualifications

$1.77/hour district allowance

6 weeks of annual leave

12 days personal/carer’s leave

Superannuation + salary packaging options

Reimbursement of $600 airfares annually for eligible staff (after 12 months)

Use of a fully equipped vehicle during work hours

Ongoing professional development and access to external supervision

Flexible working arrangements available

A fixed-term contract to 30 June 2026, with the option to extend based on available funding

A warm, purpose-driven team passionate about community impact

If you’re ready to empower change and walk alongside people on their journey toward recovery, apply today and help us continue delivering care where it’s needed most.
