Position Title: EL1 Assistant Director – Governance and Corporate Reporting
Employment Type: Contract (Labour Hire) – 12 Months
Location: Canberra, ACT
Hourly Pay Rate: $76.54 - $82.42 per hour + super (commensurate with experience)
Security Clearance/Requirements: Must be an Australian Citizen; ID and Criminal History Checks required
Working Arrangements: Full-time, on-site
ABOUT THE ROLE An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Assistant Director to join a high-performing Governance and Corporate Reporting team within a Commonwealth Government agency. This position plays a key role in delivering and managing core governance activities, including risk management, internal audit, fraud control, and conflict of interest oversight.
You'll work closely with senior executives, contribute to the agency’s integrity framework, and help lead a small team to deliver on key corporate objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate agency-wide risk reviews and reporting
- Manage the internal audit program in collaboration with external auditors
- Provide secretariat support to the Audit and Risk Committee
- Oversee fraud and corruption control planning and practices
- Manage conflict of interest policies and frameworks
- Lead and support a small team to meet deliverables and develop capability
- Draft high-quality reports, ministerial briefs, and responses to parliamentary requests
- Provide strategic governance advice to senior leadership
- Build collaborative relationships across the agency and with external stakeholders
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated experience in governance, internal audit, or risk management
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- High-level written communication skills, including experience drafting complex documents
- Excellent judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
- Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management experience
- Experience leading or mentoring small teams for high performance
- Strong analytical and research capabilities
- Knowledge of public sector governance frameworks and legislation, such as the PGPA Act, is highly desirable
ELIGIBILITY
- Must be an Australian citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain baseline security clearance
- Will be required to undergo ID verification and a criminal history check
- Previous experience in a Commonwealth Government environment highly regarded
