The Team:
- Psychiatry Staff: 2 psychiatric consultants and psychiatry registrars
- Medical Staff: a resident medical officer
- Nursing Staff: working three separate shifts (morning, afternoon and night)
- Allied Health Professionals: a social worker and a psychologist
- Medical and nursing students may be involved in care and treatment.
We provide inpatient treatment for individuals who require 24-hour specialist mental health care in a safe and supportive environment. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
The Role:
As part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the Statewide Mental Health Services Strategic Plan, Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Registered Nurse will undertake the delivery of nursing care to consumers based on best practice principles, person centred, recovery orientated and trauma informed care, within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework.
You will need:
- Current knowledge and experience in and the ability to apply nursing principles and procedures in the delivery of consumer care in acute adult mental health in line with legal requirements and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council competency standards for Registered Nurses.
- Knowledge and understanding of the psychosocial and health needs of individuals and their application to nursing practice in the acute adult mental health setting, including an understanding of the principles of maintaining appropriate therapeutic relationships with consumers.
- Sound knowledge of psychotropic drugs, actions and side effects.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, casual positions working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 24 months.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent casual vacancies.
Location: North West, Tasmania
Salary: $78,179 to $99,316 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount plus 25% Casual Loading - Equivalent of $49.26 to $62.58 per hour.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
Working with Children Registration
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Possess or be working towards a specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification, or completed prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, a hospital-based training program that resulted in previous registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse registration authority within Australia
