About This Opportunity
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer will contribute to innovative research developments within the scope of the ARC Discovery Project (Next-Generation Solvers for Complex Microwave Engineering Problems). This project aims to design and develop physics-guided, data-driven algorithms that can accurately solve complex microwave engineering problems in a timely manner. The primary bottleneck so far preventing that approach is the disparity between trained theoretical models and reality. This will be overcome through the development of domain adaptation or domain generalization techniques. This project will yield significant economic and societal benefits, including supporting the efficient design, installation, and operation of medical imaging systems, communication systems, mining operations, and infrastructure inspections.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Research: Develop processing methods for electromagnetic medical imaging using microwave techniques and anomaly detection, create large electromagnetic signal datasets via simulation, lab, and real-world experiments, design and test clutter removal techniques, build physics-guided, data-driven imaging algorithms using AI, evaluate algorithm performance through modeling and simulation, establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publishing or exhibiting in high-quality outlets, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
- Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, effectively supervise and support researcher development, manage research support staff in line with University policies throughout the employee lifecycle, provide performance feedback and training and resolve conflicts.
- Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You
- Completion or near completion of a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.
- An emerging profile in research in the discipline area.
- Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
- Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding.
- Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities
- Demonstrated expert knowledge in machine learning, AI, and bio-signal processing
- Experience in conducting research projects, with demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills
- A basic knowledge of applied electromagnetics, particularly in electromagnetic imaging
- Evidence of publication of research findings in top international peer-reviewed journals and conferences relevant to the scope of the project (including electromagnetic, imaging, or machine learning venues)
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
