About the Role
- Permanent part-time position 15 hours per week - Wednesday to Friday
- Position travels between Edmonton to Innisfail
- Miscellaneous Award - Level 4 - $30.68
The Pastoral Care Assistant will work within the Southern Deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Cairns, covering the area between Edmonton and Innisfail. This role reports directly to the Director, Diocesan Outreach and Mission Services.
The Pastoral Care Assistant will support the emotional and/or spiritual well-being of individuals, their families, and associated support persons. This support will be provided through supervised visitation and care, with actions considered in light of Christian and gospel values.
Working under the supervision and training of the Pastoral Care Associate, the role is developmental in nature, with the aim of progressing to the position of Pastoral Care Associate.

This position is to provide appropriate pastoral and spiritual support to those seeking the services of Diocesan Outreach and Mission Services. This service driven role requires excellence in communication and high-level interpersonal skills with passion and drive to maintain integrity and professionalism.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
- Be a practising Catholic and understand Catholic faith practices, beliefs, culture and ethos.
- As a genuine occupational requirement, the position requires that the Employee’s conduct and lifestyle align with principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
- Experience in a similar position, and understanding of pastoral assessment, ministry and counselling is highly advantageous.
- Sound working knowledge of all Microsoft suite applications, email, databases, and web browsers.
- Effective communication and relationship building by engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Ability to work autonomously and have well developed organisational and time management skills.
- Capacity to understand and implement Duty of Care, Safeguarding principles and Work, Health and Safety requirements.
- A valid, unrestricted Queensland driver’s license.
- A valid Positive Notice Blue Card (No Card, No Start legislation applies).
- Suitable Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
