The Organisation

The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of its kind in Australia. The VACCA team is committed to the organisation’s visions and values, passionately providing support, service and advocacy for our children and other vulnerable members of the community.

Our strength lies with our people.

About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Nugel Case Manager will work directly with Aboriginal children and families in the child protection system, striving to improve outcomes and strengthen family capacity. This role ensures children can safely remain at home or transition back, while collaborating with government and sector partners. The position operates under Section 18 of the Child Youth and Families Act (2005), empowering VACCA to lead decision-making in place of DFFH Child Protection.

About You

The Nugel Case Manager engages with Aboriginal children, young people, and families to support their holistic wellbeing—physical, emotional, social, cultural, and spiritual. Working within the Children, Youth and Families Act (2005) and VACCA guidelines, the role involves assessing risks, developing culturally grounded safety plans, and strengthening family connections to culture and community. Responsibilities include implementing strength-based and healing practices, advocating in the Children’s Court, and maintaining accurate case records.

The position also builds collaborative relationships with families, community organisations, and government partners to ensure culturally safe, wrap-around support. Additionally, the Case Manager upholds health, safety, and compliance standards while promoting the rights and voices of Aboriginal children and families.

  • Requirements:
  • Social Work or related degree (child development, trauma, family dynamics) with practical experience.
  • OR Diploma in Community Services (2+ years) with a child welfare focus, fieldwork, and case management training.
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence.

What we can offer you

  • 5 weeks annual leave
  • Access to child protection and VACCA training programs
  • Extensive support and training from VACCA’s in house legal service
  • A supportive environment that includes comprehensive induction and regular internal supervision
  • Professional development and training opportunities
  • Attractive salary packaging to increase your take home pay
  • Fitness Passport - allowing you (and your family) access to any of the facilities available on this program
  • 17.5% loading on annual leave
  • Access to agency vehicles for all work-related travel
  • Access to Employee support and wellbeing programs
  • Paid parental leave after 12 months of ongoing employment
  • Opportunity to work and build connection with the Aboriginal Community and culture
