About Multicultural Australia
Multicultural Australia supports thousands of refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers across Queensland to find their place in society. We are committed to fostering connections, empowering communities, and building a future where everyone feels welcome and valued. Our compassionate, person-centred approach ensures that people from diverse backgrounds receive the support they need to thrive.
At Multicultural Australia, we believe in building an inclusive team that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We offer opportunities for professional growth, leadership, and the chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals from migrant backgrounds.
The Role
The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) provides support through tailored and holistic case management and coordination, applying person-centred and culturally informed frameworks, with specific focus on supporting clients to achieve outcomes across English, education, employment and community engagement. We aim to promote wellbeing, independence, belonging and quality of life through delivering culturally appropriate support which nurtures aspirations, promotes independent living skills, inspires active citizenship and supports connection with family, peers and communities. Strong, positive relationships are at the core of our work.
This is a Fixed-Term, Full-Time role until 30th June 2026, based in Toowoomba, ideal for someone passionate about community engagement and supporting people from diverse backgrounds.
What You’ll Be Doing:
· Deliver case coordination services that are culturally competent to individuals from a variety of refugee and humanitarian backgrounds;
· Conduct a psychosocial needs assessment with each client and their family and create a needs-and aspirations-focused case management plan;
· Provide emotional support to clients applying culturally responsive and trauma-informed practice, using discretion to escalate to Team Leader where required;
· In line with MA policy and procedures, collaborate with volunteers, CSWs, and bicultural workers to provide direct case management to specific clients and their families;
· Assist clients in building meaningful social relationships, such as ties with individuals of their culture, place of origin, or religious community, and offer cultural orientation and life skills development;
· When necessary, offer crisis intervention support to address urgent requirements, reporting to your Line Manager any events that put a client, agency, employee, or organisation at risk;
· Take part in team meetings and case conferences. Make sure that claims are submitted on time and that case notes are recorded in the case management system;
· Keep up productive, cooperative working connections with important stakeholders to guarantee efficient service planning and delivery to clients;
· Provide client-centred advocacy, collaborate with community and governmental organisations to provide avenues for suitable service options for individual clients, and establish client-focused advocacy.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Diploma in Community Services, Community Development, or a related discipline.
A valid Queensland Driver’s License.
Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a Blue Card (Working with Children Check) and National Police Clearance.
Experience in case management, particularly with newly arrived humanitarian entrants or individuals in settlement processes.
Strong cross-cultural communication skills, with an understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by humanitarian entrants and migrants.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with database reporting systems.
Additional Desirable Skills:
Experience working in the not-for-profit sector.
