About the role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Horticulture Tradesperson to provide horticultural advice, and play a key role in the maintenance and management of the City’s landscapes and Civic Centre gardens. This is a hands-on and rewarding position that requires a deep knowledge of horticultural practices, a practical approach, and a commitment to safe and sustainable practices.

A snapshot of your new role:
Provide trusted horticultural advice and ensure good horticultural practices across City landscapes and Civic Centre gardens
Interpret landscape plans, planting layouts, identify stock species and advise on plant selection
Monitor the health and growth of plants, and take appropriate action to address any issues
Ensure high quality and aesthetically pleasing plant displays
Planting across landscaping projects and/or landscape maintenance activities
Maintain up-to-date and accurate nursery inventory, plant stock and supplies
Perform pruning, shaping, staking, fertilising, weeding, mulching, pest control and other tasks
Operate and maintain small plant and horticultural equipment
Work collaboratively and safely with team members
Who we’re looking for:
Minimum Certificate III Horticulture or equivalent qualifications in amenity horticulture
Demonstrated skills and experience in horticulture, including plant identification, planting and establishment, plant maintenance, as well as weed, pest, and disease management
Strong knowledge and practical experience in nursery hygiene and operations
Experience operating a range of horticultural tools, small plant and equipment
Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions
Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with the public
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Current ‘C’ class license (‘MR’ class highly desirable)
White Card
Satisfactory National Police Clearance (under six months)
