Classification Grade: Legal Officer Grade VI (LOG VI)

Salary: $165,865 - $169,359 p.a. base salary (with superannuation and annual leave loading paid in addition to the base salary)

Work type: Full – Time - 35 hours per week, 12 months with a possibility of extension or conversion to ongoing.

Location: Our primary place of work is the CSO Office located at 60-70 Elizabeth Street, Sydney.

*Please note we will be relocating to a new premises located at Parkline Place, 252 Pitt Street, Sydney in July 2026.

About the Role

As a Principal Solicitor (Legal Officer Grade VI) you will be responsible for assisting the Director in managing the practice group, including with client and stakeholder engagement and in the identification and implementation of team-wide initiatives which contribute to the achievement of the NSW Crown Solicitor’s Office’s (CSO) business and people goals. You will be responsible for leading a sub-team within the practice group and will provide advice and representation to the Crown Solicitor’s clients in a range of highly complex litigation matters and advice matters in which the Public Interest & Protection practice group specialises.

About You

We are looking for experienced and talented legal professionals with expertise in complex litigation and the provision of legal advice. The successful candidate will have experience in managing and supervising the work of solicitors and ensuring the provision of high quality, cost-effective and client-focused legal services. We are looking for solicitors who have 5-7+ years of post-admission experience.

About the Practice Group

The Public Interest & Protection practice group advises and represents NSW Government agencies in public interest immunity claims in criminal and civil matters across all State and Commonwealth jurisdictions, the Attorney General in relation to the administration of charitable trusts, the Public Guardian and NSW Trustee and Guardian in guardianship matters, and various NSW Government agencies in discrimination matters (including class actions). Experienced solicitors with either criminal or civil law backgrounds, with strong litigation and legal analysis skills and the ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced environment, are encouraged to apply.

Essential requirements

· Candidate must be an Australian Citizen.

· Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW.

· Highly developed legal skills and extensive experience which enable provision of advice and representation in highly complex legal matters in areas of law in which the Public Interest & Protection Practice Group specialises.
