About the team:
Located in the City Inspectorate Branch, the Environmental Health Compliance team administers various state legislation and local laws that aim to protect public and environmental health. Environmental Health Compliance is made up of 6 teams, with over 40 Environmental Health Officers, who work from offices located across the City.
About your new role:
This is your opportunity to join the 2025 Queensland Environmental Health Team of the year (as awarded by Environmental Health Australia)!
As an Environmental Health Officer (EHO), you will apply your public health and environmental protection knowledge to achieve outcomes for our city, residents and visitors. You will perform your role as an Authorised Officer, exercising delegated powers to apply legislation and local laws.
A typical day as an EHO can include assessment of food businesses, personal appearance services and environmentally relevant activities, as well as water testing at commercial swimming pools, noise monitoring at music events, public health related investigations including asbestos in non-workplace settings, noise and environmental nuisance investigations and water pollution investigations.
Multiple positions are available in the Compliance team; graduate, early career and experienced EHOs are all encouraged to apply!
We're looking for people who have:
A tertiary qualification in Environmental Health accredited by Environmental Health Australia (QLD)
An open ‘C’ class driver’s licence
Understanding of and ability to apply environmental health principles and legislation.
Time management and organisational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the area of mediation and conflict resolution
Research and problem-solving skills.
