Level: 4 ($44.37-$46.70/hr)

THE ROLE
At Kyabra, the Intake and Assessment team is responsible for providing an initial point of contact in relation to community members who present to the organisation for assistance.
The Intake and Assessment Worker will assist with this, particularly in relation to child safety-specific enquires around foster and kinship care (FKC). This will include responding to expressions of interest from community members seeking to become foster/kinship carers, initial assessments of foster and kinship carers and facilitating out-of-home placements.
This position will work in conjunction with the Manager, Coordinator and other team members, and be primarily responsible for:
Initial needs identification and assessment for community members who contact the organisation for assistance.
Providing initial support and advocacy to community members who present with, and are experiencing, complex issues.
The provision of relevant information and appropriate referral pathways (either internally or externally), including brief intervention work if/when required.
The focus of this position is to facilitate out-of-home placements (i.e. matching children/young people with Kyabra’s foster carers). This position will also undertake initial phone-based intake and assessment, as well as some centre-based and outreach functions in relation to FKC and general enquiries. This role is based at Kyabra’s Runcorn office but will be expected to also work out of our Richlands location as per a roster.
REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor’s degree in Social Work/Human Services or similar.
Demonstrated experience working in an intake environment i.e. being the first point of contact for community members seeking support, including assessment for internal and external referrals.
Demonstrated experience in child protection and delivering Foster and Kinship Care services to children and their Carers, including experience in placement matching for out-of-home care via the Unify platform.
Demonstrated knowledge of Child Protection and Out-of-Home Care systems and legislation, including the Standards of Care and the Child Placement Principles.
Ability to work in partnership with carers, the Department of Child Safety and other stakeholders.
Understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of social justice, as well as a demonstrated capacity to work from a strengths-based approach.
Cultural competency, including a demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, working with people from CALD backgrounds.
Demonstrated understanding of issues/barriers facing community members, including ways to resolve or improve these issues and empower participants.
Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, including an ability to work autonomously or as part of a team, and adapt to various circumstances as necessary to support each service user.
Valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or eligibility to attain one as well as a willingness to partake in any other required police/history checks or training as required by the organisation.
Desirable
Experience in undertaking Provisional Approval assessments, as required.
Knowledge of the housing and homeless sector and/or financial support systems.
Demonstrated experience in the use of client management systems and the ability to rapidly learn new systems and/or other databases.
