The Role
ASD 4 & 5 Radio Frequency (RF) Signal and Access Analysts enjoy working in small to medium-sized teams to solve intelligence problems, and are motivated to learn new skill specialisations. They operate under minimal direction to achieve outcomes for their team, while also providing guidance, encouragement and mentoring to less experienced staff.
Our RF Signal and Access Analyst roles vary, and can cover areas such as communications signals and/or protocol analysis, radio frequency systems operations and/or analysis, data processing, programming or scripting, business analysis, risk management and access operations management.
Key duties include:
- Work effectively within and across teams, and actively participate in teamwork and group activities.
- Investigate and interpret through the research, analysis, transcription and translation of collected data and information to produce signals intelligence tailored to customer requirements.
- Record and maintain accurate files and records within information systems in relation to business decisions and intelligence functions.
- Accountable to produce signals intelligence, whilst complying with legislative, policy and security frameworks.
- Utilise and apply a variety of information communication technology systems including data entry and query functions in order to produce signals intelligence.
- Operate and apply signals intelligence related systems to maintain capabilities to achieve business outcomes.
- Evaluate and interpret collected data and information to develop further collection, processing and analysis to support future mission outcomes.
- Instruct, train and develop signals intelligence analysts and provide guidance to less experienced staff.
- Utilise a variety of hardware and software systems, databases, and analysis tools in order to produce signals intelligence.
- Be innovative to develop business process for signals intelligence production.
About our Team
Access Operations branch consists of multiple operational and technical teams who find innovative solutions to enable ASD access operations that consistently deliver world class outcomes for the Australian government. Our work is at the cutting edge of access technologies in support of national security, support to military operations, and intelligence outcomes.
Our team comprises of a multi-disciplinary, integrated workforce that conducts in-depth Radio Frequency (RF) signals analysis of complex foreign communications systems, which can include reverse engineering radio frequency RF signals to discover underlying technology and foundational data associated with foreign capabilities that may harm Australian interests. With the outcomes from these teams routinely informing a diverse range of customer sets both nationally and internationally.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for Radio Frequency (RF) Signal and Access Analysts to work across multiple missions within ASD and use their understanding of the RF spectrum, technical and analysis skills, as well as their stakeholder engagement/management abilities to conduct complex collection, analysis, and production of signals intelligence.

Throughout your career as an RF Signal and Access Analyst, you will use sophisticated intelligence or technical analysis to produce vital and valued intelligence for the Australian Government. All roles will involve leveraging or building your specialist expertise against our most difficult intelligence problems. As part of our team, you will deliver meaningful and personally rewarding contributions to Australia’s national security.
While demonstrated RF technical experience would assist you in completing the functions of this role, we are highly interested in any candidate who has the attitude and aptitude to engage (and persevere) with complex problems and work within a multidisciplinary team to find creative solutions within the RF Spectrum domain.
