Overview
As an Electrician at Sunterra's Wagerup Battery Farm, you will be a vital member of the project team, contributing to the success of the utility-scale solar farm and battery storage facility. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities including installation, electrical works such as fit-offs, switchboard upgrades, cable runs etc.
Qualifications & experience
Holds an Electrician license
Holds a Working at Height license
CEC accreditation for solar and battery accreditation would be an advantage
Valid C Class drivers license and comfortable with a manual vehicle
The ability to work efficiently in a busy environment
Be capable of working within a team and with Apprentices
Owns a car and willingness to travel from Perth to Wagerup.
Tasks & responsibilities
Role Summary
The Electrician will play a critical hands-on role in the electrical delivery of the Wagerup BESS project. The role will be responsible for the installation, termination, testing, and commissioning of all electrical components associated with high-voltage (HV), medium voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) systems. This includes the power conversion system (PCS), battery containers, switchgear, auxiliary equipment, and associated control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Installation
Interpret single line diagrams (SLD), schematics, and electrical layout drawings to carry out precise installation of electrical infrastructure.
Install cable containment systems (trays, conduits, supports) in compliance with project specifications and safety requirements.
Pull, route, and secure HV, MV and LV cables from termination to switchgear, battery containers, inverters and transformers.
Install field-mounted electrical devices such as junction boxes, earthing systems, lighting and control equipment.
2. Cable Termination & Connections
Perform high-standard terminations of HV, MV, and LVcables (up to 33kV), including crimping, gland fitting, and insulation techniques according to Australian standards.
Conduct pre-termination inspections and post termination quality checks, ensuring compliance with AS/NZS 3000 and manufacturer’s procedures.
Accurately install control and communication wiring, including fibre-optic cables and auxiliary systems (RTU, SCADA interfaces etc).
3. Electrical Testing
Conduct continuity, insulation resistance (IR), polarity, loop impedance, and earth resistance testing.
Support functional and integrated system testing, including interlock and protection relay verifications.
Use instruments such as multimeters, clamp meters, and digital relay testers.
Assist commissioning teams in identifying faults or deviations and perform necessary rectifications.
4. Commissioning Support
Assist the commissioning team with energisation sequences for battery racks, PCS units, and switchgear panels.
Conduct live system observations during pre-commissioning, start-up, and performance testing phases under supervision.
Accurately log and report test results and anomalies using commissioning checklists and handover documentation protocols.
Participate in commissioning risk assessments and support start-up readiness reviews.
5. Safety, Compliance & Quality
Ensure all work is completed in line with NESI safety standards, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and Work, Health & Safety (WHS) legislations.
Maintain LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) discipline at all times.
Participate in toolbox talks, job safety analysis (JSA), and hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA).
Document all work performed via daily work packs and commissioning records for QA/QC purposes.

Salary
Salary range for this position is $61.50 per hour plus superannuation.
