THE ROLE

Position: Bus Driver

Employment Type: Casual

Commence: Immediate Start

This is a casual call in position for coverage Monday to Sunday. Penalty rates apply.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Rockhampton Girls Grammar Schools Bus Drivers are responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school according to the daily schedule. The Bus Driver must ensure that the school bus is always in a good operating condition and cleanliness maintained. The Bus Driver must maintain order and security on the bus and obey all laws, traffic regulations and the Schools Code of Conduct.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS

SAFETY AND LEGISLATIVE RESPONSIBILITY

Operate the school bus in a safe and effective manner in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures and in order to minimise the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.

Ensure students under the age of 12 years are met by parent or approved adult at their designated bus stop:

Provide supervision and duty of care to students who have not been met by parents or approved adult at their designated bus stop and escort them to the Outside School Hours Care program at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School.

Report any delays or accidents to Facilities and Services Manager and Student Services:

Complete incident report forms for any vehicle accidents and obtain relevant documentation (included other involved parties driver licence if applicable) and photo evidence of the scene.

Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.

Transport the bus to any scheduled services and/or maintenance repairs.

Clean the bus as scheduled and/or required.

Ensure the bus is safely and securely stored.

Advise the Facilities and Services Manager of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.

Ensure the bus maintains all scheduled servicing.

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Maintain bus driver daily schedules for external activities.

Pick up and deliver students as per schedule.

Take attendance on the school bus.

Ensure students are aware of rules and responsibilities as passengers.

Maintain order and discipline on the school bus.

Make note of any behavioural or disciplinary problems and report them to the Deputy Principal – Students, Director or Primary, Director of Secondary and/ or Head of Boarding.

COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITY

The Bus Driver, when dealing with the community, must act courteously and respectfully. This includes if the Bus Driver receives a complaint regarding bus schedules or the quality of service being provided. The school Bus Driver must report all complaints to the Facilities and Services Manager.

EXPECTED KNOWLEDGE, ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES

Knowledge of highway and school bus regulations.

Experience in dealing with children including those with specials needs.

Experience in scheduling systems and procedures.

Experience in record keeping systems.

Knowledge of plant equipment cleaning standards and procedures for buses.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

Promote Rockhampton Girls Grammar School inside and outside the school community.

The successful application is required to:

possess a current Blue Card from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian or has the ability to obtain;

hold a current MR or HR Licence; and

hold a current Driver Authorisation or ability to obtain.
