Mater Research are looking for a Research Midwife to join the Mother and Baby, Clinical Trials team! This full time and or part time maximum term role for 12 months will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

Salary range: $51.87-$58.24 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

The Research Midwife position will cover clinical and administration work across a variety of research projects within the maternity unit and will require an early start for a research project that involves collection of placental tissue in the delivery room.

The Research Midwife is responsible for the day- to-day management of clinical trials/research studies. They will act as a primary coordinator for clinical trials and clinical research. They are responsible for the coordination and administration of study related activities. This position will oversee project planning, and ensures that pre-established procedure, study protocol, data collection and regulatory requirements are followed. This position will oversee recruitment and coordinate research participants as appropriate and serves as an administrative liaison for projects. They will oversee the administrative tasks and record keeping in a compliant manner. This role is critical to the successful conduct of clinical trials at Mater Research.

About you

The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, or attributes:

  • Current AHPRA midwifery/nursing registration and a bachelor’s degree in nursing/midwifery or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant workplace experience.
  • A high-level of interpersonal skills necessary for negotiating and liaising effectively with a diverse range of staff, patients, and other stakeholders.
  • Understanding of Australian Clinical trial regulatory framework and applicable guidelines such as ICH GCP as adopted by the TGA and NHRMC guidelines for clinical trials
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with competent working knowledge of Microsoft suite of programs including excel, word, teams and outlook
  • Knowledge of data collection and management systems. An understanding of REDCap and Mater Systems will be viewed favourably.
  • Technical knowledge of human biospecimen collection including blood and tissue.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Personal attributes of integrity, tact, sound judgement and respect for confidentiality.
  • Ability to conduct clinical research to ensure consistency and adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • An ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and technical expertise related to the research specialty.
  • Possess analytical and problem-solving skills.

In addition to the selection criteria outlined above, the following experience, skills or attributes will be viewed highly favourably:

  1. 2 + years of experience as a registered midwife
  2. Theatre/Operating Room experience
  3. Experience in Research/Clinical Trials
