Period of Appointment
Appointment to the role is on a permanent full time flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight).
Duties
- Undertake education, compliance, enforcement and investigation duties of light and public passenger vehicles (PPV) in accordance with the relevant state and national legislations and vehicle standards.
- Educate and liaise with the general public and industry on matters relating to aspects of relevant state and national legislation and vehicle standards.
- Undertake the Written off Vehicle Register (WOVR) identity checks.
- Prepare reports on the physical condition of light vehicles involved in serious and fatal collisions to establish their mechanical condition and its potential contribution to the collision.
- Conduct inquiries, investigations and interviews as required in support of enforcement of the relevant State and National legislation and vehicle standards and prepare information for inclusion in court documents.
- Prepare briefs of evidence, reports and recommendations in relation to investigations and audits in a timely manner
- Provide evidence in court that relates to the inspection of crashed vehicles for Tasmania Police or where prosecution has occurred resulting from public passenger vehicle compliance and enforcement activity.
- As required work with Tasmania Police during joint road safety operations, in a compliance, enforcement and educational capacity, focussing on light vehicles and the public passenger vehicle industry.
- Facilitate and arrange for the escorting of oversize and over mass loads to ensure the safety of all road users by directing and controlling traffic where required. Negotiate with the NHVR regarding the assessment of the oversize / over-mass load for compliance against an issued permit or notice.
Note:
In order to progress through the Advanced Assessment Point from Transport Inspector Level 4 through to Transport Inspector Level 5, Transport Inspectors will need to:
- demonstrate competence and effective performance as assessed through the performance appraisal process; and
- complete Certificate IV in Government (Road Transport Compliance).
Essential Requirements
Evidence of the following must be provided prior to appointment to this role:
- Current driver licence
The person must continue to satisfy the above essential requirements/qualifications throughout their employment in this role.
Desirable Requirements
- Trade certificate in automotive mechanic or a relevant related field
