Description of the Role
The Psychologist is responsible for a client base that requires support with the adjustment to a new health condition or with challenges related to a lifelong disability. Strategies to improve emotional regulation, inclusive of anger, anxiety, or sadness. Skills to facilitate social interactions, social communication, and connections with others.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for managing an allocated caseload of NDIS and or NDIS clients across the lifespan and from varying sociocultural backgrounds and completing therapeutic processes in a timely manner.
Undertaking comprehensive clinical interviews and assessments (using clinical observations and psychometric assessments), and interpreting findings to collaboratively determine and achieve intervention goals.
Delivering person-centered, tailored interventions with a systemic focus, that also includes delivery of therapeutic support and training to stakeholders.
Monitoring, interpreting, reporting, and addressing signs and symptoms of risk and acute distress that may arise during any therapeutic interventions.
Providing written reports to (NDIS or other) outlining progress reviews and ongoing areas of need.
Maintaining awareness of current legislation to ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory guidelines.
Independently apply advanced reasoning skills to ensure outcomes are effective and match individual needs and clinical practice standards and utilize the principles of evidence- based practice to all service delivery.
Utilising a multi/trans-disciplinary model interface and participate with a range of allied health professionals to provide a holistic and integrated approach to supports.
Liaise and consult directly with other service providers to ensure achievement of positive client outcomes.
Key Attributes
Hold a tertiary qualification (or higher) in Psychology.
Pre-existing registration with AHPRA - Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA).
Possess experience working in Disability, Child Protection, or within a positive behavioural framework.
Demonstrated ability to interact positively and constructively with participants, their families, service providers and representatives of government agencies.
Demonstrated knowledge of legislation, policy and practice in areas including disability care, forensic disability, child protection, aged care, and/or health care.
Demonstrated high-level computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office and the ability to alternate between different systems.
Demonstrated ability to work within a fast-paced organisation while completing high-level reports in a timely manner.
A valid Australian driver’s license.
Current First Aid and CPR certificates or willingness to obtain.
