Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), Grade 4 to join the Workforce, Professional Development and Research team.

About Mental Health Division:

Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.

Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.

We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.

About the Role:

The Mental Health Nursing Professional Development & Research RPN4 role sits with the Professional Development and Research Program.

This role will support the coordination and development of the mental health professional development program.

It will contribute to promoting a culture of continuous improvement ensuring education and professional development activities support the delivery of evidenced based mental health nursing care.

The role will actively contribute to the mental health nursing research initiatives and training as required.

This role is responsible for:

  • Supporting the coordination of the development and delivery of professional development opportunities for mental health nurses
  • Ensuring training initiatives align with contemporary best practices, recovery-oriented and trauma informed care principles
  • Collaborating withal mental health programs / teams to identify workforce needs and implement strategies to address skill gaps
  • Promoting and supporting principles of continuous lifelong learning and translation of evidence into practice
  • Actively contributing to research initiatives aimed at improving mental health services and consumer outcomes as well as initiatives for improved workforce wellbeing outcomes
  • Participating in quality improvement projects, utilising data to inform practice changes and enhance service delivery
  • Supporting staff with the dissemination of research findings through presentations and publications, fostering an evidence-based practice environment
  • Supporting nurses throughout the process of completing research projects
  • Supporting clinical supervision for the mental health nursing workforce
  • Providing mentorship and supervision to less experienced clinicians, promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional growth
  • Assisting with the Prevention and Management of Occupational Violence and Aggression (PAMOVA) training, regularly as directed by manager

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • At least five years mental health nursing experience
  • A Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or Master qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously within a small team
  • Well-developed research and leadership skills
