About the Team
AFMA is seeking an enthusiastic EL 1 Manager to join the Foreign Compliance Policy Section. Our team is responsible for developing measures to combat IUU fishing in both Australian and internationally managed waters through engagement in international fisheries forums, delivery of capacity development programs and contributing fisheries expertise in line with Australia’s policies.
About the Role
The primary focus of the position is to support the Senior Manager by:
- leading a small team responsible for AFMA’s delivery of fisheries MCS capacity building programs in Southeast Asia and the Pacific
- liaising with internal and external stakeholders to enhance AFMA’s capacity building programs and build MCS capability
- overseeing monitoring, evaluation, research, learning and adaptation activities to inform effective program reporting and performance assessment
- maintaining awareness of developments in fisheries internationally to provide specialist advice to key stakeholders on best practice MCS measures and strategies to combat IUU fishing.
This is a non-ongoing position for 2 years with the possibility of extension.

Eligibility
- AFMA staff are employed under the Australian Public Service Act 1999. All applicants must be Australian citizens.
- The successful applicant will hold, or have the ability to obtain, a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance; and
- be able to undertake international and interstate travel as required.
