Who is Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation?
Founded in 1984, the Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation (RAC) represents the Rirratjingu people, the Indigenous Traditional Owners of Land on the Gove Peninsula. The RAC’s aim is to ensure the Rirratjingu community is financially self-sufficient and able to deliver benefits to our members and make a genuine difference in our community.
RPMMS is a wholly owned subsidiary of RAC employing predominately Indigenous staff to undertake property maintenance and gardening functions on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, other RAC businesses and other local enterprises.
Position Purpose
The Manager will support the RPMMS team in managing existing commercial contracts together with seeking out other opportunities and grant funding to support Indigenous employment within the region. The Manager will work closely with the Managers of our Culture & Community and Career Pathway teams to achieve these goals.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership to the Contracts Manager, Carpenters and Landscaping Supervisor in order to develop both the skills and size of RAC’s Yolngu workforce.
Build and maintain productive and professional relationships with key stakeholders, for the benefit of the corporation. Including, but not limited to, community stakeholders, trades, local government, state government, education and training providers and other RAC entity managers.
To the extent of their delegated authority and available resources, ensure that the employer is protected from any practice, activity, organisational circumstance, or decision that is unlawful, imprudent or which contravenes any Corporation specific or commonly held business or professional ethics.
Provide training and mentoring of Indigenous employees and trainees.
Identify improvement and/or upgrade capital works, as well as planned preventative maintenance works and developing work plans to implement these
Provision of maintenance services across; Reactive Maintenance (including emergency works), Preventative Maintenance, General Maintenance, Vacant care, Improvement Programs.
Provide monthly activity statements detailing the repairs and maintenance services complete for each dwelling in a community.
Provide support for asset management as required.
Work within the scope and ongoing direction as set by the General Manager – Community Services, with input from various internal and external stakeholders.
Education, Qualifications and Licences
Working Rights in Australia.
Valid NT driver’s license or equivalent, as travel within the community will be required
Working with Children Clearance (or ability to obtain one).
Certification in a relevant trade (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical) or property maintenance.
White Card.
Strong understanding of Indigenous culture, values, and community needs, particularly within the NT region.
Skills and Experience
Demonstrated expertise in property maintenance, repairs, and landscaping, specifically in remote or rural settings.
Ability to supervise and coordinate maintenance and landscaping staff or contractors.
Skilled in managing budgets, resources, and cost control for maintenance projects.
Familiarity with WHS standards, particularly for remote area work.
Understanding of Indigenous culture and experience working respectfully in Aboriginal communities.
Skilled in engaging with community members, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Knowledge of tools, technology, and software for scheduling, budgeting, and tracking maintenance activities.
Proficiency in the use of Aroflo, Xero, and Microsoft applications.
