Fairfield Women's Health Services (FWHS) has been delivering quality health services to improve the lives of women in the Fairfield Local Government Area. We are a non-government, not for profit, multi-disciplinary and holistic health service run by women for women.
FWHS offers a broad range of client centred, evidence based, primary and preventative health care services and programs, which aim to improve the health and wellbeing of women residing in the Fairfield Local Government Area, with particular emphasis on the local migrant, refugee and disadvantaged community.
FWHS operates from a feminist perspective, under a social model of health where service provision is based on principles of social justice and an understanding of a gendered approach to health.
The Generalist Counsellor position is responsible for:
Undertaking intake procedures providing case management, counselling, assessment, support, advocacy, information and referral to women who contact the Centre in person or by telephone and who are in crisis and/or emotional distress.
Providing short to medium term counselling for women by appointment, responding to range of presentations including complex health issues and trauma.
Developing, delivering and evaluating therapeutic group programs that address the identified needs of women residing in Fairfield LGA.
Liaising with government and non-government organisations locally, to gain an understanding of the services/resources they provide and to develop an effective referral network.
Keeping up to date with local issues that affect women in the community.
Attending and actively participating in staff meetings, counselling team meetings, clinical supervision sessions, relevant professional development and in service training, planning sessions and performance appraisals, as required.
Complying with information/data collection, quality improvement, risk management procedures, record keeping and administrative practices of the organisation.

Salary paid under the SCHCADS Award level 5 with pay point to be negotiated depending on qualifications and experience.
Selection Criteria
Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline such as psychology, social work, counselling or related discipline
Demonstrated 3 years of experience providing counselling services within a trauma informed framework
Demonstrated understanding of therapeutic approaches to counselling and commitment to best practice
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with vulnerable women from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds and all ages
Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver, evaluate and report on projects.
Strong interpersonal communication ability, including well-developed written and oral communication/ group facilitation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work holistically and effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
High level of energy, enthusiasm, reliability, resilience, and flexibility.
Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills including computer literacy, data entry and record keeping
A demonstrated commitment to feminist principles and practice and knowledge of women’s health issues
Desirable Requirements
Bilingual (Arabic/Vietnamese/ other SWS community language) speaking.
Eligibility for membership of relevant professional bodies (eg. AASW, APS, PACFA).
Established registration with Victims Services and/or Medicare to provide counselling services and pathways
Established knowledge and understanding of the South Western Sydney service system and its networks and communities
