About Balit Ngulu
Balit Ngulu is VALS’ dedicated legal and support practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people up to 21 years old. We provide not only legal representation but also culturally safe, wrap-around support that helps young people break free from cycles of disadvantage and build positive futures.
About the Role: Youth Pathway Coordinator
This is your opportunity to be part of something new, meaningful, and impactful. As part of the brand-new Strong Voice, Strong Futures program, you’ll work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who have had contact with the justice system — supporting them to reconnect with education, training, employment, and community.
Working alongside the Lead Youth Pathway Coordinator and Balit Ngulu’s legal team, you’ll:
Build individualised plans with young people to overcome barriers
Deliver life skills support (literacy, numeracy, CVs, licensing, conflict resolution)
Help build confidence, self-esteem, and coping strategies
Connect participants to cultural and community networks
Coordinate brokerage for specialist services and support pathways into education or employment
Support young people during court processes when needed
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with:
A Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or related field OR at least 12 months’ experience in youth support
Experience working directly with young people, especially those facing complex challenges
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Cultural sensitivity and ability to work within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
Enthusiasm for professional growth and continuous learning
Highly regarded:
Experience in the not-for-profit sector or Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations
Understanding of community-led approaches to youth support
Knowledge of the justice system and interagency collaboration
Mandatory Requirements
Working with Children Check (Employee)
Victorian Driver’s Licence
Criminal History Police Check
Proof of work rights in Australia
Relevant qualifications
