Burnie Brae is seeking a HR Officer to join our friendly and supportive HR team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a highly respected not-for-profit organisation with 40 years of service to the North Brisbane community.

About the Role
The HR Officer will work closely with the Head of Finance to ensure HR policies, processes, and practices are efficient, compliant, and aligned with organisational goals. This role requires someone who takes initiative, shows strong ownership, and is committed to supporting our people to thrive. We are looking for someone who is willing to go the extra mile to make a real difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide HR advice in line with current legislation, Awards, and internal policies
- Support recruitment activities from advertising to onboarding for both staff and volunteers
- Assist with performance management and employee relations
- Prepare employment contracts and coordinate inductions via our HRIS (UKG)
- Maintain and update employee records in our HRIS
- Manage volunteer onboarding, documentation, and compliance
- Support payroll processing and probation review cycles
- Ensure HR documentation meets compliance and audit standards
- Coordinate work placements and exit interviews
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture aligned with Burnie Brae’s values
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 2–3 years’ HR experience in a generalist or advisory role
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality while providing balanced and impartial HR advice to employees and managers
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices and compliance
- Strong commitment to ethical conduct, professionalism, and integrity in all aspects of work
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to resolving issues effectively and efficiently
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and importance of meeting deadlines
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
- Experience in aged care or not-for-profit sector (highly regarded)
- Current QLD Driver’s Licence

About Burnie Brae
The Burnie Brae Centre is a Not-for-Profit Incorporated Organisation which opened in Chermside in March, 1984.
The Centre offers a wide range of social, educational and recreational activities to over 50’s with two membership options currently set at $5.00 and $20.00 per year plus a $5.00 Joining Fee. Additionally, the organisation auspices a range of government funded community services for seniors, frail aged persons and younger people with disabilities managed by a team of dedicated professionals striving to provide the highest possible standard of service to clients and their families.
Office Hours are 8.00am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday each week and the Centre is also open at other times for activities and functions.
